Ain’t no party like a White House Party! ;)

Last Tuesday we hosted our 3rd annual Engagement Party/Summer Social! You know what? We were proud to coordinate this event – I mean, awesome swag bags, delicious food, refreshing drinks, scrumptious cake, tasty desserts, fun music in a casual setting!! What’s not to love?! Don’t just take our word for it, take a look at what attendees had to say!

Had a great time!!! Thank you for everything.” | “Had a blast! Thanks for having us!” | It was fun…thank you!” | “Last night was SO much fun! Thanks again for coordinating it all.” | “Thanks for including us. Good night. Enjoyed it.” | We had an awesome time as always! Already looking forward to next year! | Thank you for having us all!! It was a wonderful Summer Party !!!

It was indeed HOT and humid (after all we do live in Columbia, SC which is known to be famously hot), but thankfully it didn’t rain!! But even if it had, we were once again prepared with tents (thanks to Lee Pitcovich and the team at Something Borrowed). They also provided tables, linens, chairs, dance floor and the AWESOME FANS to help people everyone cool!! If you need rentals for your next event, call them!! The vintage rentals were once again provided by Deborah with Charmingly Southern Vintage Rentals. They add just the right touch, especially at our historic property!

It was a great night and we had all of the key elements for hosting a fabulous party thanks to our generous event sponsors!! Paige Phillips Photography & Design designed the graphics used on social media as well as the postcard promoting the event. Jessica with JWK Weddings helped us line up sponsors for the party and coordinated the giveaways that night. The awesome door prizes were donated by fab’rik Lexington, Wren Photography, JWK Weddings and Winston’s Gift Shop.

The delicious food was provided by Applause Catering,  cake samples were provided by Bonnie Brunt Cakes and sweet treats were provided by Izzabee’s Confectioneries

Bartending Services were provided by Twist Bartending, Photography by Calico Photography (you can see all of the photos she took here ), DJ services provided by TJ McKay Entertainment.

Gift bags were provided by Blush Boutique and were filled with awesome items from the following businesses –  Calico Photography, ByFarr Design Studio, Leen Machine Calligraphy & Design, Blush Boutique & Home, BP Skinner Clothiers, fab’rik Lexington, Spirit Communications Park, Wren Photography and Twist Bartending!

We also had a drawing for a free onsite makeover by Jamie Lyn Tran with Eyebrowjunkie Makeup Artistry! How fun!!

We opened up the flower barn this year and Applause Catering had more food set up in there and guests could step inside our big walk in cooler to see all the flowers and cool off! 🙂 Here a slideshow of more photos from the night! We hope everyone enjoyed themselves!!

The Cottage

On our property we have a small building that was once the caretaker’s house. We were told that John Wise (photo below) worked on Homeland Farm as the caretaker and gardener for 55 years and this was where he lived.

Since we moved to this historic property in November 2006 we had been using this small building primarily for storage. Ok, basically we just kept piling stuff in there until we had a big mess! So, I finally decided we needed to make better use of this awesome space and utilize it to display our containers, vases, columns, etc. that are available to rent for weddings and events. I wanted to be able to take brides and other clients out there to show them what we have in stock. We set a goal of “getting it ready” by the Engagement Party/Summer Social.

We did it, but we cut it close. We had an electrician come and and get everything up to code and added new outlets and a couple new light fixtures. Thankfully, this was really the only expense we incurred with this little “fixer upper” project. Several hours on a couple different days were spent cleaning out, sweeping, wiping down the cabinets, and cleaning the windows. Voila! It was ready. Of course, it’s pretty rustic and not perfect but that’s what makes it so charming! I mean we didn’t have do any painting and there is shiplap!! It was kind of eye opening to see all of the inventory we actually have and it’s nice for it to all be organized in one space. Can’t wait for you to see it!

Food, drink, music and more…must have a been a great party!

This past Tuesday we hosted our 2nd annual Engagement Party/Summer Social! While it never rained, we certainly thought it was going to at the beginning of the evening just like it did last year, with the dark clouds and rumbling thunder in the not so far distance. Thankfully, we escaped a downpour but even if it had rained, we were once again prepared with tents (2 this year) thanks to Lee Pitcovich and the team at Lake Murray Event Rentals. They also provided tables and linens were provided by Neeley Consulting.

We worked hard to get the cottage “fixed up” just in time for our event. Not much had to be done, just some MAJOR cleaning up and cleaning out, upgrading the electricity and adding new lighting. We wanted to be able to show off this great space that we will be using to display and store our rental items for weddings and events.

A big thank you to all of the attendees!! We hope you enjoyed yourselves! Can’t wait to start planning for next year! – Jennifer

Sweet Valentine’s Day Wedding!

I wanted to tell you about a very special wedding that took place on Valentine’s Day, 51 years ago – Sunday, February 14, 1965! It was the wedding of my in-laws, my husband’s parents – Donnie Faye Cothran and James Edward Pryor Sr.

I never got to meet Jim Sr. as he passed away about 5 months before I met his son and namesake, but I have always thought that their Valentine’s Day wedding was just the sweetest thing! I mean what day is better to marry your soulmate than the day dedicated to celebrating LOVE?!?!

Thanks to their daughter Cindy for sharing some of the details and photos with me. Their candlelight ceremony took place at 7:30pm at Woodfield Park Baptist Church in Columbia, SC. She had a Matron of Honor and five bridesmaids and he had a Best Man and six groomsmen. They also had twin flower girls and a ring bearer.

She carried a showered bouquet of orchids, pompons and mums.  The Bridesmaids wore street length dresses with red satin brocade with long sleeves tapering to points over the hands. They carried bouquets of white and red pompons and mums.

I’ve included a few pictures of their special day. They look so very happy!! I sure am glad these two met (through friends of her parents) and got married.  I have them to thank for my wonderful husband and Pryor family!! On that Valentine’s Day she was 19 and he was 32 and they were married almost 32 years before Jim passed away in December of 1996. After 19 years apart, they are reunited in heaven and will be together on this Valentine’s Day! As much as we miss them, this fact makes us smile!

XOXO – Jennifer

What is my design style?

Good question! I’m glad you asked!

I would say “my style” is my interpretation of the Bride’s vision and a reflection of her unique style and taste. Many floral designers strive to perfect their “signature style” and there is nothing wrong with that, it’s just not for me. Being limited to my “own” style is like being an actor that plays the same type of role in every film or tv show they do.  Boring!! Haha

I much prefer for someone to look at my portfolio of work and imagine the type of bride that carried each bouquet. I find my inspiration direct from the Bride herself and let the creativity flow from there. It is the Bride’s day, not mine and my job is to guide and suggest flowers and colors based on her preferences and my expertise.

Many brides tell me they don’t know much about flowers and that’s okay! I do! 🙂 I can draw inspiration from the Bride’s pinterest board, her wedding dress, the bridesmaids dresses, the wedding colors as well as her personality when I meet with her.
